Ever since the evolution of life on earth, natural disasters have always been the cause of destruction. At times, this destruction has reached the level of extinction of an entire species of living beings.Despite the fast paced intellectual and technological progress, mankind is still unable to stop the incidence of natural disasters. It could barely manage to control the effects and after effects of natural disasters only up to a certain extent.
On the contrary, this progressive growth of the human race has given rise to the term ‘Man-made Disasters’, its ill-effects and its aftermath. With the passing time, these ill-effects of man-made disasters have now reached to the level of its own extinction.This has been well expressed by the profound and inspiring author and a great mentor – Dr. Aniruddha Dhairyadhar Joshi in the preface of his book “The Third World War”. The author wrote:
“On 11th of September 2001, i.e. no sooner had the third millennium begun, than every nation in the world began to reflect over its protection and to consider afresh, its future political policies. Most of the prominent nations in the world had already acquainted themselves with the ways of terrorism. The U.S.A and Russia had, instigating terrorist outfits, even used them against one another. However, the 11th September episode that the USA which considered itself the one and only supreme power on earth and, therefore, indomitable, became conscious and mindful of the real strength and capacity of terrorism”.
This post will be an attempt to reconsider the various facets of Man-made Disasters and review the means to minimize the ill-effects of this inevitable catastrophe.
